2011 marked the first time NASCAR or a NASCAR team has ever designed a marketing program that used social media as the main advertising platform to not only activate the sponsor’s branding but also using the car as a reward for the NASCAR fan to follow through with the advertiser’s “call to action”.
Universal Studio’s Summer blockbuster movie, Cowboys & Aliens, is credited to be the first NASCAR sponsor to use social media as a tool to market the NASCAR fan base with a call of action that rewarded the fan with their Facebook Profile picture on the Cowboys & Aliens Chevrolet in a mosaic paint scheme. JD Motorsports with driver Mike Wallace and Social Fan Wrap partnered together to create this patent pending social media program.
